Videos on Corporate Control of Government

Will Universal Basic Income lead to a Powerless Underclass? There could  belong-term implications to UBI relating to a power shift in favour of large corporations.  Much of that has to do with another new phenomenon - the automation revolution and the effect it is going to have on jobs.

Quantitative Easing for the People:  Canada's Forgotten History:  What if Quantitative Easing was used to build public infrastructure and create jobs instead of lubricating and enriching the financial markets?  There's a 20th century forgotten Canadian experiment that did exactly that for 36 years.

A Federal Job Guarantee for Canadians:  The How and the Why:   This video explains what a Federal Job Guarantee could look like in Canada, how it could be financed, and why we need it now.

Free Trade and Trade Agreements vs Canadian Jobs:  This video looks at the cause-effect relationship between "free trade" and precarious employment.  It questions the motivation of the Canadian government in signing trade agreements that are not in the interests of Canadian workers or small businesses.

Postal Banking:  The real reasons why rural Canada doesn't have it:  Postal Banks are the obvious answer to the lack of banking services in rural Canada. However, giving Canada Post banking status is opposed by Canadian banks.  This video asks the question:  Whose interests does government serve in continuing to reject postal banking in Canada?

Proportional Representation Videos

Democracy Alert NL  has developed  a five part series highlighting both the benefits of proportional representation and the flaws of Canada’s first-past the post system. The objective is to give people something they can  show to family and friends around the kitchen table. We hope these short video-PowerPoints will spark discussion and debate around electoral reform.

Part 1:  Let's have a referendum first on proportional representation.
Part 2:  What has proportional representation brought Europe that we still don't have?
Part 3:  How valid are criticisms of proportional representation?
Part 4:  What's wrong with our first-past-the-post system?
Part 5:  Who benefits from first-past-the-post-s phoney majorities?
